Piano virtuoso Ji Liu to make rare visit to Scotland to perform a special intimate concert

On Friday October 4th 2019 Newlands Global Events proudly welcomes one of the world's great pianists Ji Liu to Glasgow to perform a special intimate concert at the Fotheringay Centre in the leafy suburb of Pollokshields in the South of the city as part of The Rising Stars of Classical Music 2019/20 Concert Series.
This unique concert will showcase music from 28 year old Ji Liu’s critically acclaimed and latest studio album ‘Fire and Water’ which is available now as well as a repertoire highlighting classic pieces from Beethoven and Chopin among others.
Ji Liu has performed around the globe and in the most prestigious venues including ‘Carnegie Hall in New York, Royal Albert Hall in London, Auditorium du Louvre and Salle Cortot in Paris and Salle Garnier Opéra de Monte-Carlo;’. He has also won and been nominated for multiple awards including ’Best Classical artist at the inaugural Global Music Awards in 2018, ‘Best Classical Album 2014 at the Chinese Music Awards and in 2016, ‘Pure Chopin’ was nominated as one of 20 best classical albums of the year by Classic FM radio’ Regarding the special concert he said "I hugely look forward to performing in Glasgow and can't wait to share my music-making with all of you.".

Described as “a major talent” by The Classical Source, and praised for his “impressive way of handling of keyboard color” and “sensitive and unpretentious musicality”, Ji Liu has positioned himself as one of the brightest stars in classical music. In 2014, his debut solo album ‘Piano Reflections’ stormed the UK Classical Charts, making him the UK’s biggest-selling classical breakthrough artist of the year. Following this success, Ji Liu went on to release three more acclaimed albums, ‘Piano Encores’, ‘Pure Chopin’ and ‘Fire and Water’. In 2018, Ji Liu was nominated as the “Best Classical Artist of the Year” at The Global Awards in London. As an active soloist, Ji Liu has appeared at major venues and festivals internationally, including at all of London’s major concert halls. He has also appeared at the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris, The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Salle Garnier Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the Bristol Proms, the Petworth Festival and the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. In 2016, Ji Liu gave the world premiere of Ludovico Einaudi’s Piano Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and in September 2017, he performed for His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales at Dumfries House as part of Classic FM’s 25th birthday celebrations.
Also as a prolific composer, Ji Liu pays homage to the great tradition of being a composer-pianist from Beethoven and Liszt to Rachmaninoff. Ji Liu was born in China and studied piano and conducting at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, after which he studied under Dmitri Bashkirov in Madrid. In 2007, he continued his studies, focusing on both Piano Performance with Professor Christopher Elton and Composition with Ruth Byrchmore at the Royal Academy of Music where he graduated with an MMus distinction and a DipRAM for his extraordinary final recital. In 2019, Ji Liu is appointed as the Head of Performance at the Kent International Piano Course acknowledging the artist’s continuous endeavor in music education.
